Minister Napoleon Koroma Champions Sierra Leone–India Business Partnership at Opesh Jewellery Store Launch

Jaipor, India, 22 October 2026— The Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Hon. Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq., has reaffirmed the importance of strengthening business partnerships between Sierra Leone and India, emphasising the potential of strategic cooperation to unlock investment opportunities, create jobs and improve the livelihoods of ordinary Sierra Leoneans.

The Minister made this commitment while serving as Chief Launcher of Opesh Jewellery Stores, an occasion that highlighted the potential of commercial partnerships and the value of Sierra Leone’s natural resources, particularly its diamonds, in international business.

In his remarks, Hon. Koroma encouraged investors to explore the vast opportunities available across Africa, stressing the importance of building genuine partnerships with local businesses and conducting business through the appropriate legal and regulatory channels. He assured prospective investors that businesses operating in compliance with the country’s laws and procedures could contribute to a secure and mutually beneficial investment environment.

The Minister also expressed optimism that engagements between African and Indian business communities would translate into concrete partnerships, with lasting benefits for both sides. He underscored the importance of transforming Africa’s population and natural resource wealth into productive economic opportunities through investment, enterprise and collaboration.

For Sierra Leone, the significance of this partnership extends beyond the jewellery industry. With diamonds from Sierra Leone reportedly forming part of Opesh Jewellery Stores’ product supply, the occasion presents an opportunity to draw greater attention to the country’s diamond resources and strengthen the connection between local production and international markets.

Stronger partnerships could help expand market access for Sierra Leonean diamonds, encourage responsible investment, support local businesses and create employment opportunities, particularly for young people. With appropriate policies and effective regulatory oversight, such partnerships could also contribute to skills development, value addition and greater economic benefits from the country’s mineral resources.

As Minister responsible for employment and labour matters, Hon. Koroma’s engagement reinforces the importance of ensuring that investment translates into decent work, skills transfer and improved opportunities for Sierra Leoneans.

The launch of Opesh Jewellery Stores therefore represents more than a commercial milestone; it offers a platform for promoting stronger Sierra Leone–India economic relations and encouraging investment that benefits both businesses and the wider population.

In conclusion, Hon. Koroma called for a shift from aid dependency towards strategic economic partnerships, declaring: “We are getting tired with the words of developed nations about the Aid to Africa.” He stressed that Africa needs genuine partnerships that enable countries to add value to their mineral resources, secure fair prices for their natural wealth and reinvest the proceeds in continental development. Such partnerships, he emphasised, should deliver tangible benefits to African people through job creation, business growth and sustainable economic development.
