The Port Loko District Women in Governance platform has condemned what it described as an insult and threat directed at Hon. Aminata Sesay, a female Member of Parliament representing the district.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the group described Hon. Sesay as one of the most outspoken and committed female lawmakers from Port Loko District, adding that they are proud of her representation and advocacy for women and girls.

The group alleged that Hon. Komba, a male Member of Parliament, insulted and threatened Hon. Aminata Sesay, describing the action as unacceptable and an attack on women’s participation in leadership.

According to the statement, Hon. Sesay entered Parliament through the Proportional Representation system, meaning she represents the broader interests of the people of Port Loko District, particularly women and girls.

“Any insult or threat against her is an insult and threat against the women of Port Loko District,” the group stated.

The Women in Governance platform reaffirmed its commitment to supporting female leaders and said it would not tolerate disrespect, intimidation, or violence against women in positions of authority.

The group called on Hon. Komba to retract the alleged statement and issue an unreserved apology. It also urged the leadership of Parliament and members of the public to condemn what it described as an act of intimidation against a female representative.

The statement comes amid renewed calls for greater protection and respect for women’s participation in political leadership and governance in Sierra Leone.
