President Bio Swears In Osman I. Kanu as New Solicitor-General

President Dr. Julius Maada Bio on Thursday 25th June 2026 presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Osman I. Kanu, Esq., who has officially assumed duty as Sierra Leone’s new Solicitor-General.

The ceremony, held in Freetown, marked a key appointment within the country’s legal administration, with President Bio using the occasion to highlight the importance of professionalism and integrity within the justice system.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, President Bio commended Mr. Kanu for his long and distinguished service in the Law Officers’ Department. He described the new Solicitor-General as a seasoned legal practitioner with a strong record of public service and commitment to national duty.

The President further reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law, stressing that effective and independent legal institutions remain central to advancing justice, accountability, and good governance in Sierra Leone.

Osman I. Kanu, Esq. previously served as Director of Public Prosecutions before his elevation to the position of Solicitor-General.
