Former presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, has called for expanded and structured dialogue with the party’s Elders Council in a renewed push to address the ongoing internal crisis within the opposition party.

In a letter dated 29th April 2026 and addressed to Hon. I.B. Kargbo, Executive Secretary of the APC Elders Council at the party headquarters in Freetown, Kamara acknowledged receipt of earlier correspondence from the Council and expressed readiness to engage in what he described as “genuine efforts” aimed at restoring unity and direction within the party.

He emphasized that the APC must return to its founding democratic ideals, including winning elections through credible processes and implementing national development programmes that serve members, supporters, and the wider public.

Kamara reaffirmed his position on what he termed “electoral justice and democratic legitimacy,” referencing the aftermath of the 24 June 2023 multi-tier elections. He maintained that the handling of the electoral outcome has left lasting concerns among party supporters and the general public, particularly regarding leadership decisions taken after the polls.

He further alleged that actions and public statements by some senior party figures contributed to internal divisions, describing such conduct as damaging to party cohesion. However, he stressed that his focus remains on reconciliation and institutional restoration rather than deepening internal rifts.

According to him, the current situation within the APC has raised broader questions about democratic accountability and public confidence in political leadership in Sierra Leone.

The APC 2023 flagbearer confirmed his willingness to attend any expanded meeting convened by the Elders Council, particularly discussions centred on the 2023 elections, the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity, and recommendations from the Tripartite Committee.

He also noted that discussions should extend to the future governance structure of the party and measures needed to restore public trust in its national executive.

Kamara indicated that he may participate in the initial stages of dialogue through a fully mandated delegation if necessary.

In addition, he requested access to the report of the party’s Nine-Man Committee, stating that it would be important for informed engagement and constructive resolution of outstanding issues.

He concluded by commending the Elders Council for its continued efforts toward reconciliation and expressed hope that the proposed expanded talks would lead to lasting unity within the APC.
