Hon. Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah (Chericoco) has issued a strong call for fairness, restraint, and respect for Sierra Leone’s democratic space, following recent developments affecting the All Peoples Congress (APC).
In a statement, Hon. Bah highlighted the suspension of the APC by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), the imposition of heavy fines on the party, and the arrest, court charges, denial of bail, and subsequent remand of APC Secretary General Comrade Lansana Dumbuya at the Pademba Road Correctional Facility.
“While the APC has complied with the fines as a mark of respect for the law and established institutions, it is deeply concerning that the situation has escalated in ways that raise serious questions about fairness, proportionality, and the protection of Sierra Leone’s democratic space,” Bah said.
A lawyer and former lawmaker, Bah emphasized the importance of independent institutions and the rule of law, cautioning that the law must never be perceived—or used—as a tool for political intimidation. He stressed that democratic progress in Sierra Leone depends on fairness, equal treatment, and unwavering respect for constitutional principles.
“While fully respecting the independence of the judiciary, I urge all state institutions to exercise their mandates with restraint, neutrality, and integrity. Good governance requires institutions that safeguard democratic participation, not restrict it,” Bah added.
He also called on APC members and supporters, both in Sierra Leone and the diaspora, to remain calm, disciplined, and united, reiterating the party’s commitment to defending democracy, good governance, and the rule of law.
“Let us remain focused, principled, and committed to peace as we work toward a better future for all Sierra Leoneans,” Bah concluded.
