President Julius Maada Bio, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, held a high-level discussion with Guinea-Bissau’s military leadership on Monday.

The engagement comes in line with the communique issued at the Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council, which underscores the regional bloc’s commitment to restoring constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau.

During the discussions, President Bio reaffirmed ECOWAS’s firm stance on safeguarding democratic governance and emphasized the need for a peaceful return to legitimate civilian authority. The talks form part of ongoing efforts by ECOWAS to stabilize the political situation in the country and prevent further escalation.

President Bio’s visit highlights ECOWAS’s proactive role in addressing political crises within member states and underscores the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and regional solidarity in resolving governance challenges.
