Popular journalist and Station Manager of Star Television, Abdulrahman Kamara, has explained the reasons behind Kandeh Yumkella’s removal as Head of Energy by President Bio.

In a recent interview with Liverty Online, journalist Abdulrahman Kamara shared his views on the circumstances surrounding Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella’s (KKY) removal from his leadership position in Sierra Leone’s energy sector.

According to Kamara, Dr. Yumkella’s time in office was marked by what he described as “a focus on controlling the finances of the energy sector,” claiming that no major new initiatives were implemented during his tenure.

He further alleged that the widely publicized “Mission 300 Energy” project expected to significantly boost Sierra Leone’s energy output and revenue did not live up to expectations.

Kamara described the launch as “a publicity move aimed at impressing President Bio and his supporters,” suggesting that it failed to deliver tangible results.

Kamara also claimed that Dr. Yumkella was often reluctant to take advice from senior and junior professionals within the ministry, leading to concerns raised by some staff and investors. “When corrections were proposed to improve the sector, he would refuse and proceed with his own plans,” Kamara said.

He went on to assert that Dr. Yumkella’s removal from the position was permanent, adding that he is unlikely to return to a similar role in the current government.
