The opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding democracy in Sierra Leone, warning against any attempts to intimidate voters or manipulate the outcome of the 2028 elections.

In a recent radio interview, Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK) Esq., a senior APC figure, underscored the party’s determination to ensure electoral integrity. He stated that the APC is now “fundamentally different” from the party that participated in the controversial 2023 elections, which were marred by allegations of rigging.

“If they want peace; so, shall it be,” Kamara said, signaling the APC’s readiness for constructive dialogue with the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP)—provided the electoral process is free and fair. However, he issued a stern warning that any attempts at manipulation would be met with an “unwavering resolve” to defend the will of the people, promising to “reciprocate in ten folds.”

Kamara’s remarks highlight the APC’s dual approach: advocating for transparency and fairness while maintaining a firm stance against intimidation and partisan interference in the democratic process.

Political analysts note that the APC’s posture reflects a broader effort to redefine the party’s identity and reinforce its role as a guardian of democratic principles. The statements have resonated with citizens who call for a political environment that respects the electorate and ensures accountability.

As Sierra Leone approaches the 2028 elections, the APC’s assertiveness may shape political discourse and test the ruling party’s commitment to upholding democratic norms. Observers say fostering a culture that prioritizes the people’s will is crucial to preventing the recurrence of electoral disputes and building a stable, transparent, and credible democratic system.
