The Opposition Chief Whip of Sierra Leone’s Parliament, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, has concluded a three-day parliamentary conference in Abidjan, Republic of Ivory Coast, where discussions centered on the establishment of a proposed Mano River Union Parliament.
Hon. Kamara departed Freetown on 23rd September 2025 to participate in the high-level conference, which brought together parliamentary leaders to explore ways of strengthening regional collaboration and legislative synergy across the subregion.
One of the key outcomes of the gathering was the development of a strategic roadmap designed to ensure the successful realization of the Mano River Union Parliament. In his remarks, Hon. Kamara underscored the importance of incorporating advisory and legal roles within the framework of the proposed parliament, noting that these functions would set it apart from existing legislative bodies and enhance its long-term effectiveness.
During the visit, the Sierra Leonean delegation also held engagements with the Speaker of the Ivorian Parliament and the Majority Leader. Both parties exchanged ideas on fostering a smooth and functional regional parliament.
The Speaker warmly welcomed the delegation and pledged his unwavering support for the initiative, assuring that his office remains open for continued collaboration.
Hon. Tamara expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders working towards the development of the Mano River region. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing peace, unity, and progress both in Sierra Leone and across the wider subregion.
