The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced plans to introduce a digital smart payment system for traffic offenders, in a bid to modernise enforcement and improve transparency.

The new platform will allow offenders to pay fines online or through accredited agents, replacing the current manual process often criticised for delays and inefficiencies. It also features real-time tracking and automated record-keeping to ensure greater accountability.

Deputy Executive Director Josie Abraham Scott-Manga said the system is part of the Authority’s wider digital transformation agenda. “The introduction of this handheld device and smart payment system will promote smooth operations and enhance transparency and accountability,” she noted.

Director of Enforcement, Augustine Kaitongi, described the move as long overdue, adding that the platform will generate real-time data on traffic offences, improve revenue collection, and provide accurate vehicle tracking. He stressed the importance of well-trained staff to operate the system effectively.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Smart System Company, SLRSA’s technology partner, said the platform eliminates physical ticket printing and provides daily offence data essential for planning and enforcement.

The system is expected to make traffic fine payments faster, more secure, and more transparent nationwide.
