The Government of Sierra Leone has officially declared Friday, June 6th, 2025, as a public holiday across the country in observance of the Islamic feast of Eid-Ul-Adha.
In a public notice issued to the general public, the government confirmed that the day will be dedicated to the celebration of one of the most significant religious festivals in Islam. Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command—a story revered by Muslims around the world.
The public holiday declaration allows citizens, especially those of the Muslim faith, to partake in religious observances, prayers, and the traditional practice of animal sacrifice, which symbolizes devotion, charity, and gratitude.
As the day approaches, the government urges all Sierra Leoneans to celebrate peacefully and uphold values of unity, compassion, and respect for one another during the festivities.
Eid Mubarak in advance to all celebrating!
