On December 10, 2024, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) celebrated its 20th anniversary with a Dinner & Award Night, recognizing individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to human rights.

Hon. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara was honored for his dedication to justice and human rights, notably through his work as a prosecutor at the Sierra Leone Special Court and his roles as Attorney General and Head of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

In his speech, Kamara dedicated the award to the vulnerable and marginalized, underscoring his commitment to defending those who face political oppression.
