The Office of Domestic Support Services Agency (ODSSA), will tomorrow Friday 2nd December, 2022 hold their certification ceremony of their first batch of fifty (50) trained hospitality and domestic support staff who have completed courses in Competency-based Curriculum. The ceremony takes place at the Residual Special Court hall, King Harman Road in Freetown.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ODSSA), Alitu Ansu Katta, this is the first time such an educational institution has been established in Sierra Leone. She added that ODSSA) is established to train people in hotel hospitality, child care givers, waiters, waitresses, bar men and women, launderers, dish washers, etc.
She went on to state that, through their partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, the ODSSA) received a grant from the World Bank under the bank’s Skills Development Fund (SDF) which enabled her to initiate a three months training program, for fifty people who have since passed and will be graduating tomorrow Friday 2nd December, 2022.
According to her, ODSSA) is an institution established to fill the gap between untrained employees that enter this field but do not have the basic training to perform. She added that with ODSSA), potential employers who need employees for the above-mentioned jobs can be rest assured that they can now have a crop of trained people that can perform excellently.
She maintained that all throughout the three months of training, the students were meticulously taught the basics and were engaged in practical sessions on personal and work ethics, how to manage their finances, time management and how to treat their boss etc.
The Office of Domestic Support Services Agency (ODSSA), is a recruitment agency that focuses on lower and middle-level manpower recruitment for commercial and private support services in Sierra Leone.
The certification ceremony is geared towards promoting and celebrating young women in the Sierra Leone society and to create a platform to help young women thrive despite the challenges they are facing.
CEO Katta also revealed that since ODSSA was established in 2012 in Freetown, they have deployed housekeepers, cleaners, nannies, cooks, waiters, waitresses, messengers and a wide range of other office and domestic service providers including those offering laundry, ironing and gardening services.
The business is the first of its kind in the country that exclusively trains, mentors, coaches and vets unskilled recruits for job placements with diverse client categories.
