In less than forty-eight hours when the NEC Chairman announced the date for the presidential election, chairmen, women and youth leaders and members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in general are beginning to have sleepless nights. This is because they are in the knowledge that in less than fourteen months from now they no longer would be in power as the APC is set to boot them out come June 24, 2023 through the mandate of the people of Sierra Leone who are generally fed-up and disappointed over the way and manner they managed the state’s economy and other aspects in the last four years.
In a press release from the office of the National Electoral Commissioner and National Chief Returning Officer, Mohamed Konneh, the 24th of June 2023 is slated for the election of President of Sierra Leone.
This announcement has laid to rest the many speculations and conflicting statements that the ruling government is planning to hold on to power beyond 2023.
In effect, this announcement has given permission to the respective political parties wishing to field presidential candidates to begin putting their houses in order to have an acceptable flag bearer to contest the election come 24th June next year.
From all indications, the main opposition APC party has a fit and suitable candidate in the person of Dr. Samura M.W Kamara who was the most favorite candidate of the APC in the 2018 presidential elections and is still considered the best and favorite choice of the APC who possess the clout and popularity to win the 2023 presidential elections and take the APC back to State House.
