According to popular BBC journalist, Umaru Fofana who was one-time President of SLAJ, he reported on social media that he went to the Youyi Building to interview the Trade Minister about the high cost of food stuffs in the country and was greeted with an unworkable elevator.

He went on to state that he later found out that the cause of the perennial blackout in the Youyi Building was because the Youyi Building owed EDSA millions of Leones in terms of electricity bills and that unless the Youyi Building management pays this outstanding bill, the situation will remain the same.

He added that the situation is pitiful because there are dozens of people going to this building on daily basis that are faced with trekking up flights of steps to get to their destination.

He noted that unless something urgent is done to reverse this ugly trend, the suffering experienced by visitors and even the ministers working at the Youyi Building which houses at least eight important government ministries will have no end.

Another visitor to the Youyi Building who is a member of LEGAL LINK tweeted that for at least one week now, Youyi Building has been in permanent blackout. He added that such a situation is demoralising and disturbing the work of government and especially the work of the ministries housed in the Youyi Building. He called for an urgent intervention to reverse this trend.
