The United Bank of Africa (UBA) on Wednesday 16th June 2021 donated books to schools across the country in a way of commemorating the Day of the African Child.
Speaking to students at the Rokel Secondary school, Tower Hill, Freetown, the Managing Director of UBA said they are happy to distribute the books to the Rokel School and that they are happy to celebrate the day of the African Child with them. He said that UBA is celebrating the day with other African countries where UBA is operating to show their support for the education of the child in Africa. Adding that, the UBA Foundation is the Cooperate Social Responsibility arm of UBA that has its focus in the area of Education, Environment, Economic empowerment and social projects. Noting that they are using the foundation to donate the books to schools across the country.
He added that this is a reflection to show the bank’s belief in the quality of education for the African child. He admonished that the reading culture is very important for the child and that is the reason UBA is encouraging every child to develop the habit of reading. He furthered that, giving the African Child quality education will help in the socio-economic development of the African Continent.
The MD ended by encouraging the students to make use of the books donated to them and pleaded to them to develop the culture of reading. The bank donated 5 cartons of the books to the Government Rokel Secondary School.
