The outgoing United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone, Mr. Sunil Saigal has, on Tuesday, bid farewell to the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Francis Kai-Kai.
Sunil Saigal has been in Sierra Leone for the last four-and-half- years.
He commended Sierra Leone’s achievements, especially in good governance and socioeconomic transformation. He noted that the country was a land of opportunities and was confident the government of President Julius Maada Bio would continue to seize the opportunities, adding that Sierra Leone was on the right track to achieving the SDGs.
The UN official hailed the existing partnership between the UN and the Sierra Leone, especially through the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, which he termed as “excellent”.
“The commendable achievement that we have celebrated over years are a result of Sierra Leone’s resilience that enabled them shape their own destiny”, he said.
Minister KaiKai said that, the UN Resident Coordinator is a friend of Sierra Leone and commended his contribution for the development of the country. Dr. Kai-Kai portrayed Mr. Saigal as a leader who successfully coordinated the UN system to support government initiatives.
“The President already congratulated him for the good work in Sierra Leone, on our behalf, but courtesy demands that he still comes to the parent Ministry to bid farewell. We have been working very closely and collaborated greatly to foster the development aspirations of this government and we hope that we would continue to work closely with your successor”, Dr. Kai-Kai asserted.
The Development Secretary, Peter Sam-Kpakra, Dr. Sheka Bangura, Director of Planning, Kawusu Kebbey, Director of Development Assistant and Coordination Office among others all expressed their deepest appreciation to the outgoing Resident Coordinator for his good work in Sierra Leone.
Dr. Saigal would be proceeding on retirement after 35 years of service with the United Nations.
