Residents of Bo City and its environs in the Southern Region of Sierra Leone are crying over the transfer of AIG William Fayia Sellu former AIG Southern Region.
Their wailing came about when AIG William Fayia Sellu was thanking the people of Southern Region for their cooperation over the years serving them in the capacity of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG South).
AIG William Fayia Sellu gave his farewell message in the Southern Regional headquarter of Bo City on Monday night during a simulcast radio program hosted by the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), linking other community radio stations in Bo City.
AIG William Fayia Sellu who succeeded AIG Saidu Kapr Kamara on May 2nd 2020 at a time armed robbery was on the increase in Bo its environs at night and even in broad daylight, distressing residents in Bo City and its environs, was drastically reduced upon AIG William Fayia Sellu’s posting as AIG Southern Region.
Because of his hard work and experience in handling volatile security matters; in less than a month, the armed robbery gangs were tracked down and overpowered and armed robbery became a thing of the past in Bo and the central southern regions and its environs.
AIG William Fayia Sellu in his farewell speech noted that during his time as AIG South, he used to patrol the length and breadth of the Southern Region with his team to make sure residents of Bo City and the regions sleep soundly. He reiterated that before his transfer as AIG South, armed robberies were commonplace to the extent that thieves attacked people in broad daylight in market places but that under his leadership as AIG South, two vehicles that had long been abandoned at the police station were repaired for operational use and this ensured that more police officers were deployed on the streets of Bo City to provide security for citizens engaged in trading and other human activities within the township while disciplining police officers who behave unprofessionally within the region.
A business man along one of the major streets in Bo City listening to AIG Sellu’s farewell speech said during the stay of AIG William Fayia Sellu in Bo, he ensured that there was free flow of vehicles at all major streets in Bo and that he discouraged putting up of illegal checkpoints on main streets within the municipality and also checked the actions of the Bike Riders Union and Bike Riders Monitors (BMOs).
He added that AIG William Fayia Sellu also saved the Bo municipality from frequent strike actions and vandalism by Njala University students through dialogue with the administration and the students and that AIG William Fayia Sellu is the only senior police officer to ever donate a DSTV package and accessories to the students’ union government of Njala University, Bo Campus. He reiterated that as residents of Bo City they appreciate AIG William Fayia Sellu for providing them adequate security throughout the region and wished him well in his new assignment.
AIG William Fayia Sellu SLAJ South, media houses in Bo, traditional leaders and Southerners for their support and good working relationship that he enjoyed and that it is because of the excellent job he has done over the years that attracted the Executive Management Board of the Sierra Leone Police to promote him to the position of Director of Crime Services at the Sierra Leone Police headquarters.
