The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has announced immediate load restrictions on the Old Railway Line Bridge at Brookfields, citing safety concerns over the deteriorating condition of the structure.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the SLRA stated that only cars and light vans with a maximum weight of 4 tons will be permitted to use the bridge until further notice. The measure, according to management, is a precautionary step to prevent potential accidents and ensure public safety.
The Authority further disclosed that physical barriers will be installed to enforce compliance with the restriction. At the same time, plans are underway to retrofit the bridge in order to restore normal vehicular traffic in the near future.
Motorists plying the route are strongly advised to adhere to the new regulation. The SLRA also apologized for any inconvenience the decision may cause road users, stressing that the move is necessary to protect lives and property.
