President-Elect of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, has addressed growing concerns surrounding popular Sierra Leonean footballer Musa Tombo, whose repeated returns from international clubs have sparked public debate.

Speaking during an interview on AYV’s Wake Up Sierra Leone, Kamara emphasized the importance of prioritizing the player’s mental well-being rather than pressuring him to pursue a career abroad.

“Musa Tombo has travelled out of the country more than three times, and he returned every single time,” Kamara noted. “That is enough to know that he cannot play football outside Sierra Leone, and we cannot force him. We have to think about his mental health and what makes him happy.”

The football administrator’s comments have been widely interpreted as a call for empathy and a more supportive approach to athlete management, particularly where mental health challenges are involved.

Despite his undeniable talent, Musa Tombo has faced persistent difficulties settling with clubs outside of Sierra Leone. Kamara’s stance marks a significant shift in tone, suggesting that the SLFA may be moving toward a player-first policy that respects individual circumstances and mental health needs.

His remarks have drawn praise from mental health advocates and player welfare supporters, highlighting the growing recognition of the need for football institutions to create safe and supportive environments where athletes can thrive both on and off the pitch.
