Over the Repealing of the Public Order Act,
“EX-PRESIDENT KOROMA WAS A DOER AND NOT JUST A TALKER”-
Hon. Chericoco Says
It was momentous in the well of parliament on the 16th day of July 2020 when the minister of information and communication tabled a bill for the repealing of the part 5 of the 1965 public order act, it was splendid to see various MP’s from the red, green, rainbow, gold colours and independent MP’s unanimously agreed to pass the bill that has so long kept the fourth estate from their freedom of expression about issues of the state, almost every MP said the same. But that doesn’t prevent the leader of the main opposition Hon. Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah ( Hon. Chericoco) from acknowledging the tremendous efforts made by the past APC government in reaching thus far, he personally commended the SLAJ president and also the current minister of information and communication for acknowledging continuity as government is continuity he added.
He thanked the former president ERNEST BAI KOROMA for starting the process of repealing the said part of the 1965 public order act by instituting the ACCESS FOR INFORMATION which was the initial and part of the process. Leader of the main opposition emphatically stressed that former President EBK was not a talk and do president but DO PRESIDENT, HE DOES WORK AND NEVER TALK.
Hon. Chericoco further acknowledged and let known to parliament that the embryonic stage of the repeal started in 2016 so therefore, both past and present governments should be applauded for that such a bold step.
The major opposition leader in parliament also supported the proposition of other MPs to repeal the two- sim issue affecting other citizens from contesting for positions especially for MP. He said he is not afraid of any competition as other MPs may want to, but thinks every Sierra Leonean must be accorded that right.
Hon. Chericoco reiterated in the well of parliament that anything that is good for the general public will be supported by the APC, but anything that seem opposite and has an adverse effect on the people of Sierra Leoneans will never be supported by the APC, the honorable added. He therefore, concluded in supporting the passage of the bill for the repeal of the part 5 of the 1965 public order act.
What makes the people burst into laughter in the corridors of parliament was the slogan created by the opposition MPs
“Na unu put unu put en unu go pull unu pull. Meaning the draconian act was added to fight and silent the then opposition (APC)
