The Sierra Leone Police successfully recaptured two escaped prisoners serving lengthy 88-year imprisonment sentences. Chernor Jalloh, also known as Fullah Boy, and his accomplice, who were freed during the November 26 coup attempt, were apprehended in a daring police raid.

Providing details of the capture, a police officer briefed his colleagues and the media on the operation. The escapees were traced to a house in Freetown, where they had looted valuables, including two laptops, two phones, a gold chain, and a marriage ring, among other items. The officer highlighted the use of a homemade pistol in the robbery, urging the public to remain vigilant against such weapons commonly used by criminals.

Expressing concern over the proliferation of homemade firearms, the officer urged those involved in selling weapons to verify the legitimacy of their customers and ensure proper documentation with law enforcement authorities. He emphasized the potential deadly consequences of illegal firearms, stressing the need for stricter regulation and monitoring of gun creators by the Small Arms Department.

Furthermore, the police called upon the media to assist in disseminating information about the individuals supplying weapons to criminals and businesses facilitating illicit arms trade. The officer underscored the grave risks posed by the illegal firearms trade, noting that gun-related incidents could have fatal outcomes, as evidenced by gunfire during the recent robbery.

In a stern warning to blacksmiths involved in weapon manufacturing, the officer cautioned against the production of firearms and urged diversification into alternative, lawful products. He urged the Small Arms Agency to intensify its oversight of gun creators to prevent further endangerment to the community.
