The Government of Sierra Leone has successfully evacuated 24 of its nationals from Iran following recent military strikes and retaliatory actions in the Middle East.

According to a press release issued on March 3, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the evacuees have been safely relocated to Armenia as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

The group includes 14 students, one private citizen, three Sierra Leonean diplomats, and six locally recruited staff of the Sierra Leone Embassy in Tehran. The swift evacuation demonstrates the Government’s quick response to the evolving security situation in the region.

The Ministry confirmed that emergency protocols were immediately activated as tensions escalated. Through coordinated diplomatic and logistical efforts, authorities ensured the safe departure and relocation of all affected nationals.

The Government also reassured the public that Sierra Leoneans residing in other Middle Eastern countries—including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Israel—are reported safe, based on updates from Sierra Leone’s diplomatic missions in those countries.

Citizens in affected areas have been strongly advised to follow local safety directives, including curfews and emergency procedures, and to remain in regular contact with their families and Sierra Leone’s diplomatic representatives.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of citizens abroad, the Government emphasized that the safety and welfare of Sierra Leoneans remain a top priority. Officials pledged to continue monitoring developments across the Middle East and to provide timely updates as necessary.

The evacuation underscores Sierra Leone’s dedication to safeguarding its people during periods of international uncertainty.
