Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) has issued a scam alert following a surge in fraudulent activities targeting its customers and the general public. Scammers have been impersonating SLCB representatives through various communication channels, including phone calls, emails, text messages, and social media, to deceive individuals into disclosing their personal and financial information.
SLCB’s management expressed deep concern over these reports and emphasized their commitment to customer safety and security. The bank highlighted several key precautions to help the public safeguard against these scams:
Be Skeptical: Treat unsolicited communications claiming to be from SLCB with caution. If an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is.
Verify the Source: Independently confirm the identity of anyone claiming to represent SLCB by contacting the bank directly through official channels. Avoid using contact details provided by the suspected scammer.
Protect Personal Information: Never share sensitive information, such as account numbers, PINs, or passwords, with unknown entities over the phone or online unless the recipient’s authenticity is confirmed.
Report Suspicious Activity: Immediately report any suspicious activity or scam attempts to local law enforcement and notify the bank to help in taking appropriate action against fraudsters.
SLCB reassured customers that they do not engage in unsolicited requests for personal or financial information and are actively working with law enforcement agencies to combat these fraudulent activities. The bank urged everyone to stay vigilant and follow the outlined precautions to protect themselves and maintain the community’s integrity.
