According to the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) Communications Unit, the company has successfully restored water supply to the city of Makeni, bringing relief to thousands of residents who had been without access to clean water for several days.
The disruption, which was attributed to a mechanical breakdown at the Wusum Treatment Plant, left the bustling northern city grappling with water shortages, causing significant inconvenience for both households and businesses.
In response to the crisis, SALWACO’s top management, led by Managing Director Ing. George Lamin Vandi and Deputy Managing Director Apostle Dr. Albert Harrisson Harvey, swiftly activated an emergency response plan. The plan involved dispatching a team of experienced engineers and senior management officials to Makeni to oversee the repair work and ensure the timely resumption of water services.
Among the team members were SALWACO’s Director of Operations, Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie, and Maintenance Manager, Ing. Abu Kallon, who also serves as the Acting Head of Maintenance. They were joined by the local SALWACO team in Makeni, headed by Station Manager, Ing. Emmanuel Bayoh. Together, they worked tirelessly to address the technical issues at the Wusum Treatment Plant and restore the water supply.
The swift action taken by SALWACO has been met with widespread approval from the residents of Makeni. Customers expressed their satisfaction and relief as water began flowing again in their taps, acknowledging the efforts of the engineers and management team who worked around the clock to resolve the issue.
SALWACO has reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe and pure drinking water to all areas under its jurisdiction outside of Freetown.
