East End Lions have taken a significant step toward reclaiming the 2024/25 Leone Rock Premier League title, thanks to a crucial 1-0 victory over second-placed Bhantal FC at the Approved School field on Saturday.

The defining moment came early in the match when defender Saidu M. Bangura rose above the Bhantal defense to meet a perfectly delivered free-kick from winger Sam Diallo in the 9th minute, nodding the ball into the net and sealing three vital points for the Killers.

The victory not only delivered a psychological blow to their closest rivals but also extended East End Lions’ lead at the top of the table to nine points, bringing them closer to domestic glory.

Prior to Saturday’s clash, the two teams had faced each other three times in recent seasons each securing a win and one draw. In the ongoing campaign, however, East End Lions have completed a double over Bhantal, both by a 1-0 margin. The first-leg winner came courtesy of striker Musa Noah Kamara.

The win marks back-to-back victories for Coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara’s side, who recently rebounded from a brief slump that saw them lose two out of four matches against Old Edwardians and FC Kallon narrowing what was a ten-point lead to just four points.

Since then, the Lions have regrouped strongly, beating Mighty Blackpool and now Bhantal, reaffirming their dominance in the title race with 57 points and seven matches remaining in the season.

With Bangura’s defensive prowess and timely goal, East End Lions have once again demonstrated their championship credentials. The team now looks firmly on course to lift the 2024/25 Premier League trophy—provided they maintain momentum through the final stretch.
