Alhaji Amadu Bah, popularly known as LAJ or Boss/King LA, the recently appointed Peace Ambassador for Sierra Leone, took a significant step towards fostering unity and amends on Friday. He paid a courtesy call on the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), expressing gratitude for their role in his music career and seeking their support in his new capacity.
During the meeting, Boss LA issued a public apology to journalist Asmaa James, her family, and the women of Sierra Leone for his negative outburst in 2021. The musician acknowledged his mistake, expressing remorse and seeking forgiveness in front of media cameras.
Boss LA, humbled by the second chance given by President Julius Maada Bio, emphasized his commitment to being a better person, a responsible citizen, and a true Sierra Leonean. He urged the media to help him tell positive stories and announced a peace concert on March 9th, 2024, as the commencement of his official role as Peace Ambassador.
In response, SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla commended Boss LA for taking the initiative to apologize and stressed the importance of embracing second chances. Nasralla urged the musician to use his platform to promote peace and national cohesion, emphasizing the impact musicians can have as agents of change.
Magdalene Mabinty Kamara, Vice President of Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), expressed forgiveness and urged Boss LA to champion the rights of women and girls in his role as Peace Ambassador.
President Nasralla assured Boss LA of SLAJ’s support, emphasizing their commitment to good causes and unity. The meeting concluded with a positive outlook for collaboration between Boss LA and the media in promoting a peaceful and cohesive Sierra Leone.
