The Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs paid its first official visit to the Freetown City Council (FCC) since the current council leadership assumed office, marking an important step in strengthening oversight and collaboration between the legislature and local government.
Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr personally welcomed the committee, which included Chair Hon. Kemoko Conteh, Hon. Emerson Lamina, and other committee members, alongside FCC leadership and key staff. The visit focused on the committee’s role in promoting effective service delivery and fostering good governance within the city.

In a statement, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed her appreciation for the engagement:
“Today, I had the pleasure of welcoming the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs to the Freetown City Council. This visit marks the committee’s first since we took office. We look forward to fostering stronger collaboration that extends beyond oversight meetings to build deeper partnerships for the development of Freetown.”

The meeting provided a platform for open dialogue on local governance challenges, initiatives, and strategies aimed at improving public services and strengthening the council’s capacity to deliver results for residents.
