At the just-concluded SLAJ AGM and 50th Golden Anniversary on 5th June, 2021 in Bo City, two All People’s Congress (APC) members were presented with awards for their role in reforming the Public Order Act 1965.
The awards were received by Publisher of Owl Newspaper, Alhaji Dauda Musa Bangura aka Galaxy, on behalf of the two APC heavyweights, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara Esq. aka JFK, and Hon. Mohamed Bangura, Member of Parliament.
On presenting the award for JFK, the citation read thus: “For your paper titled: Reforming the Public Order Act 1965: A Threat to Privacy or Virtue to Democratic Governance? …and for supporting the National Symposium on the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law in September 2016 as Attorney General and Minister of Justice which led to the formation of a policy document for the repeal.”
On presenting the award for Hon. Mohamed Bangura, Member of Parliament and former Minister of Information and Communications, the citation read thus: “for supporting the National Symposium on the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law in September 2016 as Minister of Information and Communications which led to the formation of a policy document for the repeal.”
Commenting on the awards, the proxy recipient Mr. Bangura disclosed to this Press that he believes the awards are in place because both men played pivotal roles in ensuring the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law becomes the reality it is today. He called on SLAJ to ensure it recognizes everyone who supports the organization achieve its dreams.
