Over accusation of stealing $ 1,500… World Vision Masterminds Detention of 16 Year Minor in Police Cell

A16 year old Minor has threatened to take her life after undergoing an ‘embarrassing’ ordeal
in the hands of the police at the Congo Cross Police Station where she was detained on Thursday 10 December 2020.
The minor had to spend the night in the cell and was only released late on Friday 11th December 2020 after the intervention by the World Vision that had masterminded her deletion.
In actual fact even if she had committed a crime she should be held in a remand home to undergo counseling but this was not the case and the worst is the fact that this detention came from an organization that ought to know better.
World Vision is a child- focused organization, so for it to mastermind the detention of a minor speaks volume of the fact that there are wrong people in that organization whose appetite for wealth knows no limits even when it cost them to breach the mandate of their organization.
This medium gathered that on Thursday 10 December 2020 one of the Directors ,a foreign national at the World Vision Office on Wilkinson Road in Freetown raised an alarm that his money in the tune of $1,500 had been stolen from his bag .Incidents of thefts in the office are very common according to a source in the office who also stated that such were not treated seriously because they mostly involve local staff.
Immediately the alarm was raised, the workers were put under lock and key with a search conducted on each and every worker to the irritation of some staff.


The 16 year old minor who assists her mother to sell at the World Vision Restaurant had entered the office to serve food and hence a search was conducted on her, no money was found but her trouble emerged from the fact that the money was found under the table she was standing close to .
She was later led to the Congo Cross Police Station along with her mother where she was detained,spent the whole night on Thursday and only to be released late on Friday 11th December 2020 after a letter from the World Vision Office was sent to the police .
Our investigations discovered that only a single Directorate position is occupied by a Sierra Leonean whiles all the remaining five are occupied by foreign nationals.
When this press contacted the Public Relations Officer of World Vision, Edward AliciousRenner he responded that he was up country when the incident occurred and that indeed it was wrong to have detained the minor, noting that the intention of the office was for the 16 year old to be accompanied by her mother, statements taken from her and later returned home.
The Police Spokesman,BrimaKamara stated that it was wrong to have detained the minor in a police cell as for such age bracket there are remand homes.
