The Opposition Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara popularly known as AKK has taken to his official Facebook page to demand transparency over funds generated from the Waka Fine Bus transport initiative, calling on authorities to account for how the revenue has been managed.
His statement has reignited public debate on accountability within the country’s transport sector.
Hon. AKK stressed that accountability is a cornerstone of good governance, adding that citizens deserve clarity on how public resources, particularly those linked to transport services, are being utilised.
“Can someone explain to us what happened to the money generated from the Waka Fine buses? Accountability is an important part of governance,” he wrote.
The Waka Fine Bus project, introduced by the government as a modern public transportation solution, aims to ease urban mobility, reduce travel costs, and offer a safer and more structured commuting system. The buses operating mainly in Freetown and selected regional cities use a ticketing model designed to generate revenue for maintenance, fuel, staff salaries, and long-term sustainability.
However, Hon. AKK’s remarks reflect growing public concerns over whether these funds are being properly accounted for. He questioned the transparency surrounding the earnings and expenditure of the service since its launch.
With calls for accountability rising, stakeholders are urging transport authorities to release a detailed report on revenue inflows, operational costs, and the overall financial status of the Waka Fine system.
Many citizens say such disclosure is crucial to ensuring the buses remain efficient, reliable, and beneficial to the wider public.
For now, the public awaits an official response from the agencies responsible for managing the Waka Fine transport service.
