The National Communications Authority (NatCA) has announced a disruption in communication services affecting Bo, Kenema, and surrounding areas. This interruption was caused by the severing of a fiber cable during disaster mitigation efforts led by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).
In response to excessive rainfall in the Regent community, the NDMA undertook critical work to clear waterways and prevent potential climate-related emergencies. Unfortunately, during this process, the fiber cable that connects the affected areas was inadvertently damaged. This incident led to significant disruptions in communication services, impacting both operators and consumers.
NatCA, in collaboration with the National Terrestrial Fiber Backbone Company Leonecom and other service providers, immediately coordinated urgent repair efforts. Thanks to the swift action of these stakeholders, the damaged fiber cable was repaired, and normal communication services have been restored via a redundant route.
NatCA has issued an apology to all those affected by the disruption and has assured the public that measures are being taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The authority will continue to work closely with its partners to enhance the resilience of communication infrastructure.
