NASSIT Opens Books of Condolence in Honour of Professor Lawrence Joseph Aruna Kamara and Dr Michael Johnny

The Board of Trustees, Management, and Staff of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) on Tuesday, 13th January 2026, opened books of condolence in honour of two former Chairmen of the Board of Trustees—Professor Lawrence Joseph Aruna Kamara and Dr Michael Johnny.

Professor Kamara, who served as Chairman during the 1st, 6th, and 7th sets, passed away on Wednesday, 10th December 2025, while Dr Johnny, Chairman of the 8th set, died on Saturday, 13th December 2025.

The condolence signing took place at NASSIT House, 32 Walpole Street, Freetown.

Speaking at the event, NASSIT Director General, Mr Mohamed Fouad Daboh, described the late Professor Kamara and Dr Johnny as “great inspirations” whose leadership shaped the institution and mentored many staff members. He noted that it was unprecedented for NASSIT to lose two prominent personalities within 72 hours and expressed his deepest condolences to the families, Board of Trustees, Management, and staff.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Fourah Bay College, Dr Andrew Christian Michael Baio, paid tribute to Professor Kamara, recalling their friendship from Christ the King College in Bo and highlighting his contributions to education and national development.

Deputy Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, Dr Joseph Ansu Tucker, also expressed heartfelt condolences, describing the deaths of both leaders as a “great loss to the nation.”

Other dignitaries who paid tribute included Trustee Mrs Sarah Thomas Kamara (6th and 7th sets), the Deputy Chairman of the Court of Eastern Technical University, the Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Empowerment, Labour and Social Security, Mr Lansana M. Dumbuya.

The event concluded with attendees signing the books of condolence in honour of the departed leaders.
