Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, on Friday engaged final-year students of the Faculty of Communication at Fourah Bay College (FBC) in an interactive session designed to inspire and inform the next generation of journalists.

The event, organized by Dr. Isaac Massaquoi, Head of Department and lecturer for the module on National Affairs Reporting, provided students a unique opportunity to interact directly with a senior diplomat and alumnus of the university.
Minister Kabba drew on his extensive experience in diplomacy, public service, and petroleum engineering to discuss Sierra Leone’s foreign policy priorities, including strengthening bilateral ties with countries such as China, the United States, the EU, and the UK, as well as regional stability within West Africa and the African Union. He also addressed Sierra Leone’s advocacy for UN Security Council reform and the country’s efforts to contribute to global peacebuilding, climate resilience, and economic diplomacy.

During the session, students asked questions on topics such as the practical realities of diplomatic engagements, the role of media in shaping international perceptions of Sierra Leone, and how young communicators can contribute to informed public discourse. The exchange provided a bridge between academic theory and real-world statecraft.
Faculty members Mabinty Kuti-George and Sheku Putka Kamara were present to support the session and ensure a focused dialogue.

The engagement emphasized the importance of open communication between government leaders and students, equipping emerging journalists with deeper insights into national and international affairs. By sharing his firsthand perspective, Minister Kabba encouraged students to approach reporting on foreign policy with context, accuracy, and purpose.
