The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, recently participated in a vibrant Youth Leadership Event hosted by Isha Johansen, attracting approximately 200 young attendees from various educational institutions across Freetown, Makeni, Port Loko, and Bo.
The event, held at the Freetown City Council, focused on fostering leadership qualities among the younger generation.
In her remarks, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasized the importance of leadership rooted in integrity, perseverance, humility, and hard work.
She reflected on the profound significance of serving others, sharing her own journey of leadership in Freetown’s transformation efforts.
The event offered young participants the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue, with Aki-Sawyerr and Johansen leading the conversation on what it takes to lead with purpose and impact.
“I was truly inspired by Isha Johansen, who was my senior prefect during our time at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, and by the insights shared by the amazing panelists and youth participants,” Aki-Sawyerr said.
FIFA Council member Johansen, a prominent figure in Sierra Leone’s football administration and the founder of FC Johansen, encouraged the youth to aspire toward impactful leadership, urging them to harness their potential to drive change in their communities and beyond.
The event, which featured a panel of distinguished speakers, created an open platform for the youth to express their views and explore ways to become future leaders.
The session concluded with a renewed sense of motivation among the participants, many of whom left inspired to make positive contributions to society.
