Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyer Pays Visit to 72 People Admitted For Food Poisoning at Connaught Hospital

Mayor of Freetown Yvonne-Aki Sawyer has paid visit to 72 people from the Mabella community admitted at Connaught Hospital after eating food from a cookery seller.

The victims include men, women and children of all ages. Two of the victims are in the Intensive Care Unit but the vast majority are responding to treatment.

The Mayor updated the Public that the DHMT surveillance team have been deployed in the community and the National Public Health Agency is currently conducting lab tests on the food from the cookery seller. The Sierra Leone Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

As she looks forward to the results of the tests and Investigations for releveant actions to be taken, She expressed her sincere thanks to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, the Connaught Hospital and DHMT teams, the Eastern and Central Police LUCs and their teams and all responders to this unfortunate incident.
