Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr welcomed Her Excellency Mrs. Ursula Fahringer, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Sierra Leone, at the Freetown City Council. The meeting highlighted their shared commitment to deepen collaboration and explore potential partnerships between Freetown and Austria.
During the discussions, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral ties. “It was a pleasure to host Ambassador Fahringer and discuss ways to enhance our cooperation,” Mayor Aki-Sawyerr stated.
A key focus of the meeting was the Freetown Cable Car Project, a transformative initiative that has recently completed comprehensive technical and financial studies. The project aims to address urban transportation challenges in Freetown and has attracted significant interest from Doppelmayr, a leading Austrian cable car manufacturer. Mayor Aki-Sawyerr noted that Doppelmayr has provided crucial technical advice to the project team during their visits to Freetown.
Ambassador Fahringer expressed satisfaction with Doppelmayr’s involvement and affirmed Austria’s commitment to supporting the project. “The collaboration with Doppelmayr represents a significant advancement towards realizing the Freetown Cable Car Project,” Ambassador Fahringer remarked.
Also present at the meeting were Austrian Consul Ram Shankerdas, Cllr Zainab Conteh, Chairperson of the FCC Foreign Relations Committee, and Ing Modupe Williams, overseeing the project’s implementation phase.The discussions concluded with a mutual pledge to continue working closely to finalize the project’s financing structure, ensuring its successful implementation for the benefit of Freetown’s residents.
