In a recent development, lawyers Augustine Sorie Sengbeh Marrah Esq. and Ms. Wara Serry-Kamal, represented by her appointed proxy, have spoken out following a pivotal meeting with the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

The meeting, held in the capacity of the Attorney General as the Titular Head of the Bar, aimed to address issues stemming from the contentious Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sierra Leone Bar Association in Kenema on May 18, 2024.

Both Marrah and Serry-Kamal were candidates for the position of President of the Bar Association at that AGM.Also present at the meeting were the other candidate, Ms. Tuma Adama Jabbie, Deputy Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay Esq., Solicitor General Robert B. Kowa Esq., and Director of Public Prosecutions Osman I. Kanu Esq.Marrah and Serry-Kamal informed the Attorney General about the outcomes of the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) convened by Bar members on July 10, 2024, at the New Brookfields Hotel.

They provided a summary of the events leading up to this EGM and presented a courtesy copy of the resolutions adopted by the Bar members during the meeting.The resolutions included the appointment of a five-man caretaker body tasked with overseeing the Bar Association’s affairs and convening an AGM.

Marrah and Serry-Kamal indicated that, due to this new caretaker board, they could no longer speak on behalf of the requisitionist members.The Attorney General and his team encouraged all parties to address their differences cordially and respectfully, in line with legal protocols.

They emphasized the importance of maintaining the Bar’s image and reputation, suggesting that seeking redress in the courts of law remains an option if necessary.

This meeting marks a significant step in resolving the issues within the Sierra Leone Bar Association and highlights the commitment of all parties to uphold the principles of law and order in their professional conduct.
