Mining giant Koidu Limited has launched a scathing attack on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone, accusing its Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala, of bias, abuse of power, and acting under the influence of political figures, including First Lady Fatima Bio.

In a strongly worded letter dated June 4, 2025, the company criticized the ACC’s decision to freeze its Guaranty Trust Bank account, alleging that the move was made without due process and has severely disrupted the company’s operations.

According to Koidu Limited, the blocked account has affected salary payments, fuel and food procurement, and other legal and operational obligations, describing the act as “an abuse of power” and part of what it calls “a bogus investigation.

”The letter further alleges that the ACC’s actions are politically motivated, linking them directly to the First Lady.

“It is an open secret in Sierra Leone that Mrs. Bio was responsible for your appointment,” the company wrote, suggesting that Commissioner Kaifala’s relationship with the First Lady compromises the independence and neutrality of the anti-corruption agency.

Koidu Limited also cited the recent arrest and questioning of a senior staff member, who was later released without charge, as evidence of what it describes as ongoing harassment by the ACC.

As of the time of reporting, the ACC has not officially responded to the allegations.

The unfolding tension between one of the country’s largest mining operators and its top anti-graft institution raises serious questions about governance, the rule of law, and the integrity of state institutions in Sierra Leone.
