Former President of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Isha Johansen, visited female inmates at the Female Correctional Centre on Monday, March 8, 2026, where she offered encouragement and donated essential supplies in commemoration of International Women’s Day.

Johansen, who is also the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Football for Reforms and Fashion for Change, interacted with inmates during the visit and urged them to remain hopeful despite the challenges of incarceration.

According to her, the engagement forms part of her long-standing support to correctional facilities in the country. She noted that this year’s visit carried special significance as it coincided with the global observance dedicated to recognizing the achievements and resilience of women.

During the outreach, Johansen donated food items, baby formula, diapers and other provisions to women serving their sentences at the facility, including those caring for young children while in custody.

In addition to supporting the female inmates, Johansen also assisted several prisoners at correctional centres in Freetown by paying fines for both male and female inmates serving various sentences.

Speaking during the engagement, she encouraged the inmates not to allow their present situation to determine their future.

Johansen stressed that with determination and a positive mindset, they could rebuild their lives after completing their sentences and become productive members of society.

Her visit formed part of activities marking International Women’s Day, which highlights the importance of empowering women and supporting vulnerable groups across communities.
