IPAM & University of West Scotland Roll-Out Short Course on Quality Management System

The Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) University of Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the University of West Scotland and support from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), has launched a two-week short course designed to enhance the quality management system in Sierra Leone. 

The program which attracted private and public sector institutions commenced on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, and run until Thursday, June 20, 2024. The sessions are held at the IPAM Campus, A.J. Momoh Street, Tower Hill, Freetown, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.

Speaking at the opening session, the Coordinator of Short Course and Consultancy Unit, Dr. Oludolapo O. Akinyosoye Gbonda said this is the first time for such a course to be introduced in the West Africa sub-region through the support of UNIDO. She added that this is the first set of students on Quality Management Systems and called on them to embrace the course as it will help them improve gain professionals expertise in ISO9001, an internationally recognized standard for quality management systems. 

She further informed the participants that by the end of the course, they will be equipped with skills to comprehend, implement, audit, and efficiently manage quality systems in their workplaces. Dr. Gbonda further revealed that the curriculum is enriched with practical insights and real-world industry examples, ensuring a thorough grounding in both theory and application.

Giving a background to the partnership, the Assistant Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mohamed Sheriff said when the DVC Prof. Conteh-Morgan took office, she introduced  a strategic plan which was two-pronged – infusing quality into all university programs and internationalizing  the university. Dr. Sheriff further stated that the partnership with University of West Scotland is very important for IPAM because this university is far above English universities when it comes to quality, adding that there is no way to go beyond standard when it comes to leveraging the University of West Scotland in quality and standard.

The Deputy Registrar of IPAM, Albert Baio highlighted the significance of this training during the opening ceremony, emphasising its potential to cultivate certified quality management system coordinators who will drive operational consistency, optimize processes, facilitate a culture of quality, bolster competitive advantage, and elevate customer satisfaction.
