International Hydrographic Office and United Kingdom Hydrographic Office Visit the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration

The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) hosted a high-level delegation from the International Hydrographic Office (IHO) and the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) on 12 January 2026 in Freetown.

The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation in hydrography, maritime safety, and nautical charting in Sierra Leone’s waters. Discussions focused on enhancing hydrographic capacity, improving the availability and accuracy of nautical charts, and supporting compliance with international maritime and hydrographic standards.

The IHO and UKHO delegations engaged with senior officials of the SLMA on technical assistance, training opportunities, and future collaboration aimed at supporting safe navigation, marine environmental protection, and sustainable maritime development.

SLMA expressed appreciation for the continued support and partnership from the IHO and UKHO, reaffirming its commitment to advancing hydrographic services as a key component of national maritime safety and blue economy growth.
