Since his appointment as Chief Immigration Officer in March 2025—succeeding Hon. Alusine Kanneh—Dr. Moses Tiffa Baio has remained resolute and unfazed in his commitment to reforming and revitalizing Sierra Leone’s Immigration Department. His appointment by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio was rooted in trust, grounded in Dr. Baio’s proven track record of excellence and transformational leadership.
Unfortunately, his progressive efforts have attracted detractors—individuals who view his integrity and efficiency as threats to their vested interests. These opponents have resorted to spreading false and defamatory narratives aimed at tarnishing his reputation. Despite these calculated attempts to discredit his leadership, Dr. Baio has remained focused and undeterred.
Most of the allegations against him have been thoroughly debunked as baseless and malicious. However, a recent claim has emerged, alleging that the Chief Immigration Officer is “desperate to privatize the residential permit system for personal gain”—suggesting a purported 40% cut from a contract. This narrative is not only unfounded but also grossly misleading.
Dr. Baio is widely recognized as a man of integrity, driven by service and results—not personal enrichment. It is illogical to accuse a leader who has actively championed anti-corruption measures within the Immigration Department of engaging in corrupt practices. Since taking office, he has introduced far-reaching reforms aimed at transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency.
His record of public service speaks volumes. As the former Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), Dr. Baio transformed the agency, aligning its operations with international standards. Under his leadership, the SLCAA garnered several national and international awards and recognitions for excellence and innovation.
Dr. Baio remains unfazed by these unfounded attacks. Instead, he continues to channel his energy into delivering on his mandate. In a recent post on his official Facebook page, he wrote poignantly:
“When people are determined to find fault, they can even accuse a snail of overspeeding.”
This statement underscores his resolve to rise above distraction and remains committed to his goals.
In his short tenure at the Immigration Department, Dr. Baio has already begun to restore order and instill a new culture of professionalism and accountability. He has created a level playing field for staff and initiated critical policy reforms to ensure that the department serves the best interests of Sierra Leoneans.
No amount of smear campaigns or orchestrated misinformation will derail his mission. Dr. Moses Tiffa Baio remains focused, determined, and resolute in delivering quality service and advancing national interest.
