The Initiative for Criminal Justice Reforms (ICJR) has issued a stern condemnation in response to recent reports and videos depicting the unlawful detention and torture of individuals associated with the drug Kush in Sierra Leone.
In a press release issued today, ICJR expressed profound concern over the treatment of innocent individuals, many of whom are grappling with addiction or seeking assistance. The organization highlighted that such actions not only violate fundamental human rights but also undermine efforts aimed at addressing drug addiction with empathy and support.
“As an organization dedicated to upholding human rights and advancing justice, we vehemently denounce these egregious human rights violations,” stated the release.
ICJR urged authorities in Sierra Leone to immediately cease these unlawful practices and initiate a comprehensive investigation into the matter. It emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions to ensure justice for the victims.
Furthermore, ICJR called upon the international community to join in condemning these atrocities and advocated for initiatives that prioritize rehabilitation and assistance for individuals affected by drug addiction.
“Every individual deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, irrespective of their circumstances,” the release asserted, emphasizing ICJR’s solidarity with the victims of Kush-related abuse in Sierra Leone.
