Renowned human rights advocate and legal expert, Yasmin Jusu Sheriff, has raised serious concerns over First Lady Fatima Bio’s recent interference in matters of foreign direct investment.

Sheriff, a prominent voice in Sierra Leone’s legal and human rights circles, has strongly criticized Bio’s involvement, describing it as detrimental to economic stability and the livelihoods of those affected.

Sheriff questioned the legitimacy of the First Lady’s engagement in labor relations and investment affairs, arguing that such matters require trained professionals with relevant expertise. She condemned what she characterized as an “unqualified and unprepared” approach to handling sensitive economic matters, warning that such interference could have far-reaching consequences for workers and their families.

Highlighting the broader implications, Sheriff expressed concern over the government’s failure to address the issue, cautioning that unchecked actions by individuals without official mandates could jeopardize Sierra Leone’s investment climate. She particularly stressed the need to prioritize the well-being of local workers whose livelihoods are at stake due to disruptions in the sector.

Furthermore, Sheriff questioned the motivations behind the First Lady’s involvement, calling for transparency and accountability in the decision-making process. She urged authorities to clarify the First Lady’s role and put an end to what she termed as a reckless intervention. As debates over governance and economic management continue, Sheriff’s remarks have intensified public discourse on the limits of unofficial influence in state affairs, particularly in areas as critical as foreign investment and labor relations.
