In a landmark event celebrated across Pujehun District, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and member of Parliament for Pujehun District, unveiled a series of transformative initiatives aimed at uplifting women and youth. Held at the District Council Hall and the newly established Youth Resource Center, the event showcased Hon. Tunis’s commitment to grassroots development, resonating deeply with the people of his hometown.
The program commenced with an inspiring gathering of women from across the district, who filled the hall with excitement and unity. The highlight of the day was the launch of the Women’s Development Initiative, a flagship project under the broader Transform Pujehun Agenda. This initiative is designed to promote financial independence for women in the district. Hon. Tunis announced an initial microfinance fund of 500 million Leones, with an additional 500 million Leones to follow in seven months, bringing the total to 1 billion Leones.
“I am not here for politics but to support President Bio’s human capital development agenda,” Hon. Tunis declared. “Our goal is to empower women and youth, ensuring they have the resources to build a brighter future for Pujehun.”
Key stakeholders expressed their gratitude and shared their perspectives. Hon. Fatmata Bockarie, former Deputy Women’s Leader of the SLPP, commended the strides made by President Bio’s government and encouraged women to continue supporting leaders who champion their cause. The Chairlady for Councillors thanked Hon. Tunis for his unwavering support and appealed for additional welfare initiatives.
The President of the Disabled Association in Pujehun delivered a heartfelt speech on the challenges faced by people with disabilities. In response, several Members of Parliament pledged to address her concerns, marking a unified commitment to inclusivity.
The event then shifted to the newly established Youth Resource Center, where Hon. Tunis donated seven motorcycles to the SLPP Young Generation Wing. He also launched a state-of-the-art facility that includes an ICT hub for digital skills training and a tailoring center to provide vocational education and create sustainable employment opportunities.
Adding to the excitement, the Leone Rock Metal Group announced a $20,000 grant to the Pujehun District Youth Council as part of a larger $50,000 agricultural project. This initiative will support youth farming organizations, fostering sustainable livelihoods and complementing President Bio’s Feed Salone Agenda.
The day concluded with promises of more initiatives to empower the people of Pujehun. Hon. Tunis reaffirmed his dedication to improving lives in the district, underscoring his belief that leadership goes beyond legislation—it is about serving humanity.
