Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya, Her Excellency Madam Isatu Aminata Bundu on Wednesday 23rd June, 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya met with top Kenya based industrialist, Mr. Narendra Rameshchandra Raval. The tycoon, popularly known as “Guru”, is the owner of Devki Group which employs over 4,000 Kenyans, 430 Congolese and 500 Ugandans, in their respective countries.
During their meeting, the High Commissioner extended the fraternal greetings from His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio. On her own behalf, she said she looks forward to working with the Kenyan based industrialist to explore investment opportunities in Sierra Leone.
The investor, Narendra Rameshchandra Raval whilst responding, said he is working towards improving the relationship between the two countries in terms of business and development. He confirmed that he would explore business opportunities between the two countries, adding that he would also look forward to taking investors to Sierra Leone within the shortest possible time as soon as COVID-19 subsides. He also maintained that he would like to embark on exchange programmes between Sierra Leone and Kenya.
He also recalled his last visit to Sierra Leone in 2019, and expressed love for the people, the current leadership and the country at large. He commended the level of peace and security Sierra Leone currently enjoys and stated that such serves as the basis and animating factor for his possible investment in the country.
It is worth noting that Mr. Guru acquired the Nalin Nail Works Group of Companies (the then largest steel manufacturing group of Kenya) in 2005 from Kenya Commercial Bank to establish the factory at Ruiru in Kenya and he expanded the steel capacity and product range.
Currently, Devki Steel Mills Limited has a market share of over 50% in the country. The company is poised to grow further and expand its presence in the national and regional steel market. Under his stewardship, the Group makes exports to Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania and D.R. Congo and earns scarce foreign exchange for the country. The Group imports raw materials, consumables, spares, plant and machinery including technical designs, drawings and know-how from Asia, Europe, Australia, America, Middle East and Africa.
Against the backdrop of wanting to improve his marketing reach, Sierra Leone High Commission in Kenya engaged him to explore more investment opportunities in the country.
Her Excellency Isatu Aminata Bundu was accompanied to the meeting by Mr. Abdul Karim Kargbo, Minister Plenipotentiary, Madam Juliana Fallah, Head of Chancery and Mr. Abu Bakarr Dakowa, the Information Attaché,all from the Sierra Leone High Commission in Kenya.
