LONDON, UK – [06 June 2025] – GeoPartners is pleased to announce the commencement of a new multi-client 3D seismic acquisition project offshore Sierra Leone. This significant undertaking underscores GeoPartners’ commitment to providing cutting-edge geophysical data to unlock the exploration potential of emerging and frontier basins.
The project sees the mobilization of the seismic vessel, BGP Prospector, which is currently in transit to the operational area. The survey is supported by industry pre-funding, reflecting the strong interest and confidence from the global E&P community in Sierra Leone’s prospectivity. GeoPartners is executing this project in close partnership with PDSL, a collaboration that leverages extensive operational expertise and local knowledge.
The acquisition is planned to commence with the first shot point in mid-June, with an anticipated acquisition duration of approximately six weeks. The acquisition will use a long-offset towed streamer configuration that is specifically designed to illuminate deep subsurface hydrocarbon potential and provide enhanced imaging for detailed geological interpretation and prospect de- risking. Following acquisition, the data will undergo a modern advanced processing sequence to produce both time and depth volumes.
Jim Gulland, Director and Founder of GeoPartners, recently inspected the BGP Prospector vessel, expressing his enthusiasm for the project. “It is truly a privilege to once again partner with PDSL on this exciting venture. The BGP Prospector is a world-class vessel, and we are confident that this new 3D seismic survey, the first in Sierra Leone for over a decade, will provide unparalleled insights into the subsurface. This project is a crucial step, significantly enhancing the country’s exploration potential and accelerating its pursuit of commercial hydrocarbon discoveries”
This new multi-client 3D seismic survey in Sierra Leone represents a strategic investment in the region’s energy future, providing essential data to attract further exploration and development.
