Following a significant turn of events, former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, who steered Sierra Leone for a decade, has departed for Nigeria today 19 January 2024 amidst growing tensions and legal challenges.
Widely regarded as a stalwart of democracy and accountability during his tenure, Koroma finds himself entangled in a legal battle, facing charges of treason following an alleged failed coup attempt on 26th November 2023.
Credible sources have confirmed that the decision to relocate the former president to Nigeria comes in response to mounting pressure from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
