The third edition of the Friends of Attouga Mini Stadium Organisation (FAMSO) Inter-Community Football competition has commenced at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium, Upgun Freetown. The Competition which is dubbed “The Chris Massaquoi Trophy”, is worth fifty thousand Leones (NLe 50,000) equivalent to Le 50M in the old notes, with 29 teams participating this time around.
The competition started on Sunday, 3rd July 2022, as rivals Blackhall Road and Dockyard Communities battled to a goalless draw. Eight matches have already been played with five wins and three draws registered so far. The twenty-nine (29) communities are drawn into seven (7) groups of four teams with group F occupied by five teams,
The following are the participating communities: Blackhall Road Dockyard, Ginger Hall, Morabie, Cline Town, Kissy Brook, Kono Community, Cassell Fram, Bombay, Yams Farm, Pipeline, Susan’s Bay, Monkey Bush, Railway, Calaba Town, Fourah Bay, Moeba, Moa Wharf, Upgunners, Magazine, Sea Side, Low Cost, Mandela, Fullah Town, Kroobay, Abacha, York, and Colvert Communities.
According to the chairman of FAMSO, Alimamy Serry, who also happens to be the chief organizer of the competition, he said they decided to play with 29 communities this time around because of the huge attention the competition commands from different communities across the city.
“FAMSO is a credible community football organizer whose immaculate are there for all to see” he boasts. He continued; “ the demand from intending communities wanting to be part of the competition was huge. We initially thought of just twenty-four teams , but with a pool of more than thirty-five communities to choose from, we opted for twenty-nine adding five more to at least accommodate some”.
Alimamy Serry further confirmed that the communities this time will battle four fifty thousand Leones (NLe 50,000), as the winner will take home NLe 30,000, whiles the runner-up scoops the remaining NLe 20,000. “They will play for fifty Thousand Leones this time”, he informed.
“The trophy this season is named the Chris Massaquoi trophy. Mr. Massauoi has done great for the development of football in the Western Area. He has helped a lot in the promotion of talents across the board, serving this nation through the little he has diligently”.
“He is our chief sponsor, and as an organization, we can safely say we’re impressed with the support he has given to us thus far”, he maintained.
Christian Massaquoi is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Division One Football Club Lowcost Contractors, an IT guru who works with NASSIT as its head of the Information Technology (IT) Department.
It is also understood that the former aspirant for the Western Area Football Association (WAFA) Vice-Chair position, has now set his sights on the top seat of the country’s biggest football region.
